The trivia-newspaper-column background story ...
In the early 1980s Wilson Casey began writing a weekly trivia column (Fri Entertainment Section) that ran in
the Spartanburg (SC) Herald.
With its popularity and the divine guidance of then-managing editor, Les Timms (deceased) --- Wilson's
column was picked up and syndicated to hundreds of
newspapers via Copley News Service, San Diego, CA. He did this for a couple - 3 years with his first book being published
(TV Trivia Teasers, Pierian Press, Ann Arbor, MI), and then pursued other interests.
His passion for writing (2000) certainly got rekindled when then-managing editor of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, Benjy Hamm (now with Landmark Community Newspapers
in Louisville, KY) and executive editor, Carl Beck, provided him the opportunity to write and entertain readers once again!
Wilson jumped at the chance!
His daily 7x week trivia column started September 15, 2000 and is currently still being produced and runs everyday on
Page A-2 in the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, plus many others (partial listings below) across the USA.
With the success of being in the Spartanburg (SC) H-J, Wilson starting knocking on editors' doors around the country. His
column was soon picked up by the News-Tribune in the Tacoma, WA and Seattle, OR area. This was a major-sized newspaper,
perhaps Top 10 in the nation. Soon others (after Wilson's bulldog knocking-on-doors tenacity) started joining
to carry his "TrivGuy" column. After awhile-- It spiked up to being in 55 papers across the US including many
weeklies which attracted the attention and brought about a story in the online edition of E & P (Editor & Publisher).
Wilson believes that newspapers like to inform and to entertain. "That's exactly what I provide via my TrivGuy
columns".
For me, the perfect trivia question gets one of these responses:
* I know this!
* I used to know this, and think can remember it now!
* I don't know this, but think can figure it out!
* I didn't know that, but that sure is interesting!
* I didn't know that, but really should have!
More (coming) to this story including the setting of a couple Guinness World Records (Trivia and Radio Broadcasting), his
22 years of asking trivia questions
on the radio, his signing with the largest syndicator in the world (King Features), upcoming Bible Trivia calendar and Bible Trivia book (both with Source Books), plus his battling wits
with Ann Robinson as a celebrity contestant on "The Weakest Link"! - - - Please stay
tuned!
